Earnhardt Jr. on pole for NASCAR Atlanta

HAMPTON, Georgia (AP)—Dale Earnhardt Jr. captured pole for NASCAR’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in qualifying on Friday.
Earnhardt’s lap of 310.2 kph (192.8 mph) was faster than any pole-winning speed set last season.
Kyle Busch will start from the outside of the front row Sunday, followed by Juan Pablo Montoya in third and last year’s pole-sitter Mark Martin from fourth.
Jeff Gordon was fifth, giving Hendrick Motorsports three of the top five spots.
